Recording-studio acoustics is the most demanding acoustic intervention, designed for professional music, vocal and voice-over production. Sound insulation (Rw 60+ dB) and room acoustics (RT60 0.3-0.4 s) are designed together. A controlled recording environment is created with double-leaf floating walls, vibroacoustic suspended ceilings, paired acoustic doors, broadband absorber panels, diffusers and bass traps.
What is recording studio acoustics?
Recording-studio acoustics is one of the most complex acoustic projects, combining two disciplines. The first is sound insulation — outside sound must not enter, inside sound must not escape; the second is room acoustics — the recorded sound must be controlled, neutral and free of reflections.

Studio build (room within room)
- Floating concrete screed — impact-vibration control to the floor below
- Double-leaf wall: two independent profile systems with a 30-50 mm gap
- Multi-layer fill: 80 mm rock wool + double plasterboard on each leaf
- Intermediate elastomeric membrane: Tecsound or equivalent
- Vibroacoustic suspended ceiling: upper-floor vibration control
- Paired acoustic doors: two certified doors with a small sound lock between them
- Acoustic glass (control room view): double pane, asymmetric thicknesses
Room acoustics — panel combination
- Broadband absorber panel: for early reflections (first reflection points)
- Diffuser panel: to scatter late reflections (Schroeder or QRD)
- Bass traps (corners): low-frequency absorbers (50-150 Hz)
- Cloud panel: ceiling first-reflection control
Control-room design criteria
The mix control room follows specific acoustic criteria. Symmetry between the monitor speakers and listening position is required; LEDE (Live End Dead End) or non-environment design approaches are applied. Our practice follows established professional studio standards.
Simulation software we use
EASE and ODEON for control-room modelling; INSUL for Rw of construction sections; comparison against measured RT60 after install. A detailed simulation report is delivered to the client.
Lead time and cost
A professional studio takes 6-12 weeks. A home studio 2-4 weeks. Investment depends on performance target; in a professional studio, 30-50% of equipment cost typically goes to acoustic design and installation.
