Acoustic Doors & Windows

Certified acoustic doors (Rw 32-44 dB), double-glazed and laminated acoustic glass systems. Key performance component for studios, offices, hotels and residential.

Summary

Acoustic doors and windows are the most critical links in the sound-insulation chain. No matter how high a wall's performance, a weak door or glazing brings the total Rw down to that level. Certified acoustic doors deliver Rw 32-44 dB, acoustic glazing Rw 38-46 dB. Automatic drop seals, twin-lip gaskets and correct frame installation are essential.

What is an acoustic door? How does it differ from a standard door?

An acoustic door is a door system whose frame, leaf and seals are specifically designed for sound-transmission loss. A standard interior door is rated at Rw 22-25 dB; a certified acoustic door delivers Rw 32-44 dB. The 10-20 dB gap is huge in acoustic terms (every 10 dB roughly halves perceived loudness).

Which performance level is required where?

  • Rw 28-32 dB: internal residential, standard office
  • Rw 35-38 dB: hotel room door, meeting room
  • Rw 40-44 dB: studio, recording room, cinema, premium hotel
  • Rw 45+ dB: professional recording studio (double-door system)

Acoustic-door components

  • Steel or densified MDF leaf (min. 35-45 kg/m² density)
  • Twin-lip continuous seal around the door
  • Automatic drop seal pressing against the floor when closed
  • Acoustic glass (vision panel) — for Rw 32+ glazed versions
  • Certified frame installation — mortar of the same mass density as the wall

What is acoustic glass?

Acoustic glass differs from single or standard double glazing through a specific lamination and varying-thickness combination designed for sound-transmission loss:

  • Asymmetric double glazing (e.g. 6 mm + 16 mm air + 4 mm) — Rw 38-40 dB
  • Laminated acoustic glass (44.2 + cavity + 6.2) — Rw 42-46 dB
  • Triple glazing (4-8-4-12-4) — Rw 40-44 dB

Most common mistake: frame installation

The most common acoustic-door mistake we see in the field is installing a high-performance door's frame with PU foam. Foam transmits vibration and does not seal properly; it can drop the door's Rw by 5-10 dB. The correct installation uses mortar + acoustic mastic.

Door + window for facade insulation

A facade's Rw is calculated as a weighted sum of surface areas. Even with a wall at Rw 55 dB, if a window covers 30% of the area at Rw 30, the overall facade caps near 35 dB. Acoustic glazing must therefore be selected close to wall performance.

Certificates

  • EN ISO 717-1 Rw: certified sound-transmission loss (always demand it)
  • EN ISO 10140-2: laboratory test method
  • EN 13501-1: fire-resistance class (EI 30/60 for doors)

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Acoustic Doors & Windows products have fire-resistance certificates?
Yes. All our products carry international fire-resistance certificates: BS476:Class 0, UNI 9175:2008 M1 and the Firex fire-resistance certificate. If needed we can share a copy of the certificate for the specific product.
Are custom sizes / colors / thicknesses available?
Yes. Many of our products can be produced with custom cuts, custom colors and the requested thickness. Once you share your project dimensions we get back to you with the most suitable product and specifications.
How are shipping and delivery handled?
In-stock items ship the same day (a dedicated delivery option is also available within Istanbul). For custom-cut orders the preparation time is 2-5 business days; on larger projects we deliver in batches according to the project schedule.
Can we install the product ourselves?
Most of our products are user-friendly for standard applications and ship with an installation guide. For industrial or complex projects we recommend support from our professional installation team.
Are bulk discounts available?
Yes, pricing is tailored to the scope of the project. We offer custom discounts and payment options for high-volume projects. You can reach us via the quote form or by phone.
