Music / drum / guitar room

Multi-layer sound insulation and bass-trap interior acoustics for high-dB instruments in music practice, drum and guitar rooms.

TL;DR

Music, drum and guitar room acoustics protect neighbours and preserve musical quality in spaces where high-dB instruments are played, professionally or as a hobby. Drums hit 110-115 dBA, electric-guitar amps 105 dBA — multi-layer insulation and proper bass control are mandatory.

What is music room acoustics?

Music room acoustics aims to design a space where professional or amateur musicians can practise without bothering neighbours and without losing musical quality. Drums, electric guitar and percussion produce 105-115 dBA — far above what standard residential build-ups can contain.

dB by instrument

  • Acoustic drum kit: 110-115 dBA
  • Electric guitar amp: 100-115 dBA
  • Bass guitar amp: 105-110 dBA
  • Acoustic guitar: 80-90 dBA
  • Saxophone / wind instruments: 100-110 dBA
  • Acoustic piano: 90-100 dBA
  • Digital piano (with headphones): 60-70 dBA

Build-up approach

  1. Floating concrete screed: critical to break drum-kick structural vibration
  2. Independent double-leaf wall: Rw 60+ dB target
  3. Vibroacoustically suspended ceiling: reduces transfer to the floor above
  4. Acoustic door (Rw 40+ dB)
  5. Bass traps: low-frequency absorbers in corners
  6. Broadband absorbent panels
  7. Diffusers (where needed): to avoid being too dry

Bass-frequency control

Bass guitar and kick drum produce high level in the 50-100 Hz range. This low frequency travels easily through structure to neighbouring flats; raising mass alone is not enough. Our standard build-up: independent double-leaf studs + 100+ mm air gap + bass traps.

Interior balance

The interior must not be too dry (RT60 < 0.3 s makes the music sound artificial) or too reverberant (RT60 > 0.8 s blurs instruments). Target: RT60 0.4-0.5 seconds.

Target performance

  • Sound insulation Rw: 60-70 dB
  • RT60: 0.4-0.5 seconds
  • Low-frequency reduction: -25 dB (structure-borne)
  • NC: 25-30

Time and cost

A professional rehearsal room takes 4-8 weeks; a hobby-level room 2-4 weeks. Investment scales with target Rw and room size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Music / drum / guitar room — which materials do you use?
Depending on project requirements, we use acoustic foam, barrier-backed foam, lead/EPDM barrier, elastomeric rubber, rock wool and double-layer plasterboard systems. All our materials carry international fire-resistance certifications.
How much noise reduction do I get after the application?
It varies according to the existing structure, the adjacent noise level and the target use. Typical residential applications achieve 25-40 dB and industrial projects 35-55 dB. The exact value is confirmed by acoustic measurement.
Do I need to move my existing furniture?
It is enough to clear sufficient space so we can work in the application area. Our installation team takes protective measures for furniture; for small applications minimal rearrangement is sufficient.
How can I request a quote?
