Lift and machine-room sound insulation controls the vibration and noise transmitted to the building from the elevator motor, rope movement and cabin/shaft. The combination of under-motor vibration mounts, an acoustic enclosure for the machine room, shaft-wall reinforcement and elastic rope coupling removes complaints.
Why is elevator sound insulation needed?
Modern elevators are MR (Machine Room) or MRL (Machine Room Less). Either way, vibration and airborne noise from the motor + ropes + cabin movement can transmit into the building's structure. Flats next to the shaft are the most affected.

- Wall thump as the lift passes between floors

1. Motor vibration mounts
Elastomer mounts under the motor base — 85-95% structure-borne isolation.
2. Machine-room acoustic enclosure
Multi-layer wall + acoustic door + suspended ceiling — reduces sound to the flat above.
3. Shaft wall reinforcement
Vibroacoustic-hung acoustic build-up on the wall facing flats next to the shaft.
4. Rope and elastic coupling
Elastic damper at the rope/motor connection — breaks vibration travelling along the rope.
5. Cabin acoustic lining
Sound-absorbing felt on the inside of the cabin — controls reverberation inside.

- Indoor level in upper flat: 25-30 dBA
- Wall Rw to neighbouring flat: 50+ dB
- Vibration reduction: 85-95%

Coordination with the lift contractor
Acoustic intervention requires the lift contractor's technical approval; adding vibration mounts can affect motor performance and rope balance. We always work in coordination with the lift service team.
Time and cost
Machine room 1-2 weeks, shaft wall reinforcement (per flat) 2-3 days. Investment scales with the size of the issue and number of flats included.
