Melamine acoustic panel is the panel form of melamine-resin open-cell foam (Basotect). It delivers NRC 0.90-1.00 top broadband absorption, B-s1, d0 top fire class and lightweight construction — the premium choice for professional recording studios, cinema control rooms and critical acoustic spaces.
What is a melamine panel?
Melamine panel is the panel form of BASF Basotect® — an open-cell foam made from melamine resin. Around 99% air content gives broadband absorption, light weight and high fire resistance all together.
Technical data
- NRC: 0.90-1.00 (peak)
- Thickness: 25, 50, 75 mm
- Density: 9-11 kg/m³
- Fire class: EN 13501-1 B-s1, d0
- Operating temperature: -40 °C to +200 °C
- Surface: plain, fabric-wrapped, vinyl-faced
Where it is used
- Professional recording studios
- Cinema control rooms
- Post-production / ADR studios
- Conference / multi-purpose halls
- Hospitals / operating rooms
- Premium music rehearsal rooms
- High-absorption call centres
Surface finishes
- Smooth white / grey (original): professional studio standard
- Fabric-wrapped: for aesthetic-driven spaces
- Vinyl-faced: cleanable / hygienic (hospitals)
- Glass tissue: additional fire resistance
Form versatility
Because melamine is light it adapts to complex shapes through CNC cutting and moulding:
- Cloud panels (floating islands)
- Acoustic baffles
- 3D sculptural forms
- Curved acoustic shells
- Corner bass traps
Cost vs performance
Melamine is more expensive than fabric-wrapped panels, but delivers about double the performance (especially at low frequency) and a higher fire class. On professional projects it is the natural part of the investment.
