Fire-retardant / Firexpan foam is an acoustic foam produced with a special formulation, offering one step higher fire resistance than standard foam. Certified to UNI 9175 Class 1IM and BS 476 Class 0; the required choice for critical spaces in hospitals, schools, public buildings and high-rise structures.
What is fire-retardant foam?
Fire-retardant (or firexpan) foam is the standard polyurethane foam upgraded with special chemical additives that control fire spread. Where standard foam emits toxic smoke during combustion, fire-retardant versions significantly reduce that emission.
Technical data
- NRC: 0.75-0.85 (acoustic performance preserved)
- Fire class: BS 476 Class 0, UNI 9175 Class 1IM
- EN 13501-1: B-s1, d0
- Thickness: 25, 50, 75, 100 mm
- Profile: flat, pyramid, egg, labyrinth variants
Where it is mandatory
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities
- Schools and educational institutions
- Public buildings
- High-rise buildings
- Hotels and accommodation facilities
- Cinemas, theatres, concert halls
- Public-access spaces (malls, restaurants)
Standard vs fire-retardant
- Standard: low fire resistance, fast spread, toxic smoke
- Fire-retardant: limited spread, low smoke emission, limited dead-air zone
The Turkish Fire Protection Regulation requires the fire-retardant class in public-access spaces; without certification a product cannot be used.
Certificate check
To verify a fire-retardant foam is genuine, request the following certificates:
- BS 476 Part 6 / Part 7 — Class 0 report
- UNI 9175 Class 1IM report
- EN 13501-1 classification
- Test laboratory accreditation number
