Sound-rated acoustic doors are tested in a certified laboratory and deliver Rw 32-50 dB performance through a multi-layer leaf, sealed EPDM perimeter and automatic drop-down threshold. Selected by acoustic class for studios, cinemas, conferences, hotels and offices; the leaf rating cannot be preserved on site without correct sealing.
What is a sound-rated acoustic door?
An acoustic door is a complete system — leaf, frame, gaskets and threshold — that has been laboratory-tested and certified with an Rw value. A standard door is around Rw 18-25 dB; an acoustic door reaches 32-50 dB, a difference that translates into dramatic comfort gains in the room.
Leaf construction
- Core: MDF + lead, or barrier + rock-wool fill
- Surface: steel, wood veneer, HPL or laminate
- Thickness: 50 / 65 / 80 / 100 / 120 mm
- Weight: 35-90 kg/m² (by class)
- Single or double leaf (two doors in series for Rw 50+)
Performance classes
- Rw 32-35 dB: standard offices, meeting rooms
- Rw 36-39 dB: hotel room doors, premium offices
- Rw 40-43 dB: conference, call centres
- Rw 44-48 dB: studio control rooms, cinemas
- Rw 49-55 dB: professional recording, backstage
Sealing system
- EPDM perimeter gasket on all four leaf edges
- Magnetic gasket in Rw 40+ class
- Automatic drop-down threshold: seals under the door
- Acoustic frame profile: closes the leaf-frame gap
- Acoustic mastic / sealant: closes the frame-wall bridge
Where it is used
- Recording and mixing studios, cinemas
- Conference and meeting rooms
- Hotel room and suite doors
- Call centres and operations
- Classrooms and exam halls
- Hospital examination and surgical areas
How to choose the right door
Set the target Rw value for the room and add a 3-5 dB safety margin, because details (frame, threshold, mastic) typically lose 3-5 dB on site. Important: the certified rating is a laboratory value; achieving it on site requires correct installation, continuous sealing and a wall build-up that is at least 5 dB higher than the door rating.
